When it comes to food, Melbourne gets a podium spot every time. I don’t think i’ve ever had a bad meal, from cheap hawker style eats to fine dining, there is something tasty around every corner and for every budget. But my favourite time to eat is brunch and my god does Melbourne deliver with it’s creative, off the cuff and damn delicious options, especially in Brunswick.
Living in Brunswick, I have steadily made my way through plenty of the joints offering drool worthy breakfast menu’s but being a sucker for some good poached eggs and avocado, I wouldn’t say I’ve been too adventurous when it comes to ordering – until I went to ‘Two Little Pigs’ on Sydney Road. If you’re a lover of all things pork, you have to go.
The cafe-deli hybrid is owned by cousins Jonathan Ioannou and Terrance Farrugia, who have combined their love of coffee and passion for pork. They have delivered it within an unmistakably cosy atmosphere, complete with heated courtyard and hanging deli meats.
The Charcuterie and Grind menu boasts big eats from house breakfasts with appealing twists to monumental sandwiches and small and large charcuterie boards. With most breakfast options hovering around the $16 mark you’re spoilt for choice with the likes of Beetroot Hollandaise Eggs, Pea and Ham (crisp pork belly and eggs with pea veloute) or Strawberry Cheesecake French Toast Sandwich.
I’d had my eye on waffles all over my Instagram feed for the past few weeks so when I spotted their loaded waffle on the lunch menu I decided it was time to be adventurous.
Crisp pork belly, bacon pieces, pulled pork, cheese, spring onion and a BBQ maple sauce sitting on top of a waffle, incredible. Of course, I couldn’t eat it all so I asked for a takeaway box and proceeded to let it feed me for the entire day!
